SUSTAINABLE PAPER PACKAGING

NIVEA uses paper and cardboard as natural packaging material for many product packaging applications. We strive to treat nature with the respect that it deserves. Therefore, we are convinced that wood-based materials, such as paper and cardboard, must be obtained sustainably to protect forests from deforestation. As forests store CO2 in a natural and effective way, their continued destruction is a major contributor to climate change. This is a problem we are taking very seriously.

We have established a “Sustainable Paper and Cardboard” policy, with the goal to switch to 100 percent sustainable paper and cardboard materials worldwide. The guideline requires the use of recycled or FSC-certified (“Forest Stewardship Council”) paper and cardboard materials. The FSC certification ensures that wood-based products come from responsibly managed forests that provide environmental, social, and economic benefits.

We have already made great progress and can share the information that by as early as 2019, 100 percent of our folding boxes were produced using FSC-certified material. We are now working intensively on switching over further paper-based materials to FSC-certified or recycled paper.
